Menopause Symptoms - Irritability

Why does menopause make us so irritable?

This symptom is very common during the peri menopause when hormones start to fluctuate and can have an affect on your general mood. If we are aware that will will become irritated by the smallest of things during this time it will help to embrace our menopause successfully. Irritability is due to declining levels of estrogen and progesterone. This often causes emotional imbalance. Other menopause symptoms also contribute to shortness of temper, such as the hot flushes, lack of sleep, migraines, they joints all contribute to stress which results in irritability.

So, what can we do ourselves to prevent irritability? Exercise regularly - this lifts your mood as you releases hormones known as endorphins and dopamine - which affects your general wellbeing and positivity. Eat a nutrition packed diet - this will increase serotonin, another positive hormone ( 80% is made in the gut lining) so if you food is nutrient dense and you eat regularly then you will start to feel better! Avoid alcohol, too much caffeine and other stimulants. Try a new hobby, meet new people, find a way to lift your mood. Self care - A bath. Reading. Massage. Mediation.
